The majority of fish follow a routine and feeding pattern, so once you’ve figured this out, you know where to go & when in order to beat even the smartest of fish. After months of testing and trying, Milan has finally cracked the Aotea/Kawhia kingfish code: there is none. These opportunistic heayvyweight fighters do whatever they want, regardless of tides, currents and moon phases. All you can do is spending hours on the water trying and being well prepared for when fish hits the hook.
Milan starts off at home testing all his fishing gear, knots and hooks before heading west to the twin harbours of Kawhia and Aotea. Hopefully this time he will be able to complete his unfinished business with the enigmatic local kingfish.
Grey mullet for live bait is a must-have, so with a cast net Milan fills his live bait tanks in Aotea, the harbour of plentiful baits, and heads over the hill to Kawhia, the harbour of big kings.
On the way to the reef at the harbour entrance, Milan tests the markerpole, just in case... This was the very same spot where he last time suffered the most intense defeat in Big Angry Fish history.
This time Milan has brought his A-game. While steadily drifting past, hard in at the markerpole, he places his livebait perfectly in front of the pole while the Minn Kota is already put in position for a fast retreat away from any obstacles that could end a fight prematurely.
All his prep work finally pays off. Not once but twice! So, who’s the King of Kawhia now?
